World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)
The need to fight animal diseases at a global level led to the creation of the Office International des Epizooties, under the terms of the International Agreement signed on 25 January 1924. In May 2003, the Office became the World Organisation for Animal Health, while retaining its historic acronym ‘OIE’.
The OIE is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide.

EWDA is a partner organization of the WDA. The European section of the Wildlife Disease Association was created in 1993 with the purpose of organising biennial scientific meetings.
The members of this group have developed multi-lateral collaborative initiatives (e.g. joint research and publications, participation in conferences and various training courses, workshops on specific diseases such as chronic wasting disease and others) and research projects.
Since 1993 the informal network created by these participants was solicited for surveillance data to provide an annual report to the OIE. The European Wildlife Disease Association seeks to provide a forum for the exchange of information on wildlife diseases and their management. Through the provision of opportunities for networking, collaborative research and training we seek to raise the profile of wildlife disease research and management.

The zoo de Lyon was created in 1858 in the «Parc de la Tête d’Or». It is the second oldest French zoo still open with the «Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes» in Paris. About 400 animals representing 64 species (among which 30 in European breeding programs) are present, without counting the recovery center for Sliders (more than 1200 individuals). The zoo’s goal is to present rare species, for which captivity is justified by their decline in nature (Pied tamarin, Amur leopard, Blue crowned laughing thrush…), and to participate in their in-situ preservation. The zoo is also actively involved in its other missions: animal welfare, coordination and participation in scientific research and especially education on environment and biodiversity of the visitors.

1st January 2010 marks the beginning of a new ENS: the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon brings together the Ecole Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines and the former Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, which was devoted to the exact sciences. This represents more than just an episode in the lives of these two poles of excellence; it is a commitment to greater effectiveness and visibility on the international scene, to a wider attractiveness for students and professors alike. It is the realization of a deliberate choice - internationally demonstrating that the ENS de Lyon is resolutely engaged in research and innovation in the exact sciences, social and human sciences and interdisciplinarity.
